It took Major League Soccer a little while after its formation in the mid-1990s to gain a foothold in the American sports landscape, but it did after hitting upon a winning formula: Rather than have their franchises play in cavernous, half-empty stadiums built for the NFL or college football, they constructed their own soccer-only facilities with smaller capacities, many of them in suburban areas.

One of the first, and some would argue the best, examples of this philosophy in action is Dignity Health Sports Park, home of the LA Galaxy and many other events.

The stadium, once known as StubHub Center and Home Depot Center, is not in L.A. proper but in Carson, about 15 miles south of downtown.

Dignity Health Sports Park’s listed seating capacity is 27,000, the third-largest soccer-specific venue in the league but nowhere near the capacity of the typical football-specific megastadium.

Attend a game at Dignity Health Sports Park and you’ll likely find an intimate environment with boisterous fans, even if the stadium isn’t completely full. The Galaxy’s success over the years — it currently is the only MLS club with six league championships — has helped it build a passionate base of supporters as well.

You’ll find that the soccer atmosphere doesn’t stop with the Galaxy, as U.S. Soccer holds numerous events at the facility — including occasional matches by the men’s and women’s national teams.

The LA Galaxy had a co-tenant for three years in the Los Angeles Chargers, who after relocating from San Diego chose to occupy a venue decidedly tiny by NFL standards. The Chargers moved into SoFi Stadium in nearby Inglewood in 2020, but for those years the team bore the brunt of jokes about lack of fans and watched as their high-priced tickets were snapped up by supporters of the visiting team.

While most fans know of Dignity Health Sports Park as the Galaxy’s stadium, it’s actually the name for an entire athletic campus that also includes a tennis venue, a velodrome, and training facilities for each of those sports.

All of these facilities will be in use during the 2028 Summer Olympics, with the main stadium hosting field hockey and rugby sevens, and tennis, track cycling and archery also taking place here.

Getting to Dignity Health Sports Park

Dignity Health Sports Park is located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, close to three major freeways in the busy and bustling South Bay region of the Los Angeles area.

Getting to Dignity Health Sports Park by car for events isn’t difficult, barring the time of day and the always-iffy traffic situation in Southern California. Once in the vicinity, you’ll want to make your way to Avalon Boulevard, the major north-south drag that runs by the stadium.

Those using public transportation to reach the stadium, or fans who wish to save on parking costs, have a solid alternative in the Galaxy Express bus service run by Long Beach Transit.

The free shuttle runs from two points: The Harbor Gateway Transit Center located in Gardena, or the Del Amo station on the Metro A line. Both locations are a few miles from Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Galaxy Express service typically runs beginning 90 minutes before kickoff and returns fans back to their preferred stops until 45 minutes after the match ends. Note that the shuttle usually is not available for other events at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Parking at Dignity Health Sports Park

From the 91 Freeway that runs about a mile to the north, drivers can head south on Avalon before reaching Victoria Street, at which you can turn left to reach the site’s general parking lots.

Alternatively, you can continue on to East 184th Street and turn left, which will bring you into the stadium grounds.

Take note of signage posted directing patrons to general parking or permit parking areas. Ample general parking is available to the north and east of the stadium, and cost $30 on site as of the 2026 MLS season.

Things to do around Dignity Health Sports Park

Dignity Health Sports Park is smack dab in the middle of suburbia, so your pregame food and drink options are very suburban: Fast-food joints and convenience stores.

The stadium grounds are surrounded by quiet neighborhoods, and especially during night games, announcements will be made imploring fans to respect the neighbors and limit noise as much as possible when leaving.

The college campus setting makes for an interesting atmosphere, especially if you wind up parking fairly far away. You’ll find yourself walking through tree-lined plazas and classroom buildings with fliers on the walls as you try to reach the stadium.

Meanwhile, you’ll find a robust tailgating scene in the parking lots around Dignity Health Sports Park, as Galaxy supporters have built up a tradition of pregame tailgating over the years.

Head to the parking lots to the north of the stadium to check out the best tailgates, including those run by official Galaxy supporter groups.

As part of the Dignity Health Sports Park campus, the Galaxy have built what’s known as LA Galaxy Park just off to the west of the stadium. It’s filled with mini-soccer fields and tennis courts that are open to the public, and usable by fans in the hours before Galaxy matches.

Watching a game at Dignity Health Sports Park

While Galaxy matches at Dignity Health Sports Park might not sell out that frequently, they nearly always attract a boisterous and loyal following.

The franchise was one of the original teams created when MLS was founded in 1996, and indeed, the slogan “Since ’96” will be prominent whenever the Galaxy faces off against their much newer crosstown rival, LAFC, in the series that has come to be known as “El Tráfico.”

Also, the Galaxy was at the forefront of the trend of bringing established international football stars to play in MLS late in their careers. David Beckham’s five-year stint here is the most memorable one, but other huge names such as Steven Gerrard, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Robbie Keane and “Chicharito” Hernandez have played for the club.

Beckham is commemorated with a statue outside the stadium’s southeast gate, and nearby is one of homegrown star Landon Donovan, who played on four of the Galaxy’s MLS Cup-winning teams.

If you’re visiting the stadium for the first time, head to this gate to see the statues, as well as a fairly large entrance plaza and the Galaxy team store.

Inside, the Galaxy is a prime example of the atmosphere MLS teams have worked hard to build that mirrors the ones soccer clubs in Europe enjoy.

That often means supporter groups with catchy names, and at Dignity Health Sports Park, the LA Galaxy have two that stand out, the Angel City Brigade and LA Riot Squad. The groups will chant and sing throughout the game — even from a distance, they’re fun to watch.

The groups gather at opposite ends of Dignity Health Sports Park, with the Angel City Brigade taking up the north side behind the goal and the LA Riot Squad setting up in the southeast corner of the seating bowl.

If you’re just dropping in, you’ll most likely wind up with a seat along the sidelines. As with many stadiums of this size, Dignity Health Sports Park’s seating bowl extends down from the main concourse and wraps continuously around the playing surface.

The east side, though, is the only side with a second tier of seating open for general tickets. These sections are numbered from 226 to 238 and require a short climb up stairs to a secondary concourse.

Press boxes and luxury suites make up the seating structure on the west side of Dignity Health Sports Park, while an expansive premium area called the American Express Seating Club takes up the south side. The higher tier on the north end consists of berm seating, which is typically sold as general tickets but is sometimes reserved for groups or special events like “Pups at the Pitch” night (when patrons bring their dogs, which are allowed to run freely around the berm).

Food and drink at Dignity Health Sports Park

The food and drink offerings at Dignity Health Sports Park have expanded over the years, with the best variety of options to be found along the concourse on the east and south sides of the stadium.

Gourmet burgers, loaded hot dogs and street tacos are among the varied options. Instant noodle manufacture Nongshim, a sponsor of the Galaxy, also operates a stand on the east concourse serving noodle bowls.

A dedicated craft beer stand called “Locals Only” can be found on the east concourse with offerings from South Bay breweries.
